Maeve Flak is Given a Unique Voice

Maeve Flak was born 8 years ago with cerebral palsy, leaving her unable to speak. That never stopped her though. Using a pre-programmed voice device to communicate, Flak can carry on conversations with friends and family. The only problem with these devices is that they don’t give the user a personalized voice, more like what they would actually have.

Wanting a voice that matched an 8 year old girl, the Flak family contacted Dr. Rupal Patel at VocalID, a company that revolutionized the way people use these devices. Dr. Patel works at creating a unique voice by using a “voice donor” and sounds made by the device user. Mixing the two together, an amazing thing happens, a voice less robotic than the regularly pre-programmed ones.

Using Flak’s sisters voice and her own sounds, Dr. Patel made a voice the family was very excited for and proud of. It took 10 months to create the voice and is just the beginning of this ground breaking technology.

“I feel excited,” Flak said after hearing her new voice. “I want to say hi to Taylor Swift with my new voice.”
