Veronika Scott–Designing Empowerment

When given a design project in school, Veronika Scott wanted to make this project mean something. Growing up in Detroit, Scott saw the struggle of the homeless population and that sparked an idea. She designed a coat that can also be used as a sleeping bag. Known now as Empowerment Plan, this coat brought a lot of comfort to many people, but one women’s comment changed things.

“Your coats don’t matter, jobs matter. We need jobs, not coats.”

The Empowerment Plan now employs 13 former and current homeless women. Truly empowering these women and helping them better their lives.
