Larkin Poe Joins Backup Band for Tom Petty MusiCares Honor

Old soul sister duo Larkin Poe recently announced that they will be the backing band during the 2017 MusiCares Person of the Year tribute concert honoring Tom Petty. Being held on Feb. 10 in Los Angeles, the tribute will be full of girl power; many of the performers that night are female singer/songwriters including, Stevie Nicks, Elle King, Lucinda Williams, Norah Jones, Regina Spektor, and the Bangles.

Larkin Poe is the perfect choice to do the honors, with their strong southern harmonies, heavy electric guitar riffs, and slide guitar skills. The sisters are also classic rock fans.

MusiCares is an organization that offers resources to people in music during times of need, honoring those artists who have made significant artistic and philanthropic contributions to the music community. This year’s honoree certainly fits that mold. Tom Petty has been active in The Midnight Mission, which brings music and awareness to homeless communities.

Rebecca and Megan Lovell of Larkin Poe had much to say when Inspirer asked how it felt being chosen to play at the MusiCares tribute show:

“As massive Tom Petty fans, it was a rush when T Bone Burnett called and asked if we’d play as part of the backing band for the upcoming MusiCares tribute show to Tom Petty. It’s an honor to be learning these iconic songs with such purpose! So many of our musical heroes are going to be gathering together on the night to celebrate all that Tom Petty has achieved thus far, and we can’t wait to add our voices and instruments to the host of celebrators. We’re going to give it all we’ve got.”

Tickets for MusiCares start at $1,750 to $8,500, with VIP packages costing up to $150,000. The proceeds from the event will go to benefit the MusiCares cause.  The event will be held two days before 2017 Grammy Awards and will also be broadcast live on the CBS Television Network at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
