Once a week Inspirer will feature a selection of drawings by our staff photographer, Annie Govekar. The drawings are part of the “Nevertheless” portrait project which feature inspiring women and their quotes. This week the “Nevertheless” portraits will be highlighting women featured in Inspirer’s “Induct These Women” series.

Half of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame’s current roster of female inductees were inducted as members of female inclusive bands. It can easily be argued that several of those women deserve to be honored as solo artists, and Stevie Nicks is undeniably one of those women. The fact that she’s been dubbed time and time again as “The Queen of Rock and Roll” should be reason enough to have her honored individually, but although she was inducted in 1998 with super group Fleetwood Mac (a band whose only number one U.S. single was penned by Nicks), she has yet to be recognized as a solo artist, despite having an extensive and wildly successful solo career spanning over 30 years.

Annie Lennox: a name so synonymous with the evolution and preservation of synth pop, new wave, and, yes, rock and roll music, that it’s surprising not to see it as one of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s inductees. Turner’s career spans over half a century. She’s best known for her singing, but she’s a dancer, actress, and author. Her first recording was in 1958 under the name Little Anne, but only two years later, she was introduced into the rock and roll world as Tina Turner in Ike & Tina Turner Revue.

More about the Nevertheless Project:
The “Nevertheless” project is an art project that features a quote and portrait of an inspiring woman every day. The goal of the project is to run for 365 days while inspiring, motivating and educating. The idea for this project came along while I was commiserating over the current state of the world with my friend. I asked “What can I even do?” My friend simply responded with “Your art.” This resonated with me and the project was started shortly after. My hope is to lift people up by shinning the light on badass women. Some you may know, some you may not. We would love to hear who inspires you and who you think should be featured.
