Jill Hennessy played Joe’s Pub in NYC on Sunday as family, friends, and fans turned out to hear her rock the small venue.
Singer / Songwriter
Most people are probably familiar with Jill Hennessy as an actress on shows such as Law & Order, Crossing Jordan, and Shots Fired. She has also had guest spots on Madam Secretary, The Blacklist, and The Good Wife over the last few years. In addition to being an actress, Hennessy is a remarkably talented singer/songwriter. Her debut album (Ghost in My Head) was released in 2009 and her latest album (I Do) was released in 2015.
New York City Serenade
The audience was welcomed with a beautiful cover of “New York City Serenade” by Bruce Springsteen.
Fan favorite songs such as “Precious One”, “10,000 Miles”, and “Ghost in my Head” were included in the set. The audience was vocal throughout the evening while shouting words of admiration for the band and the song choices.
Band member Trina Hamlin (harmonica, tambourine, and backup vocals) performs with Hennessy. Other band members included Robbie Giersoe, Tod Caldwell, Bill Dobrow, and Tony Tino.
Hennessy shares the story behind the song “Edmonton”. The song was written for her grandmother who immigrated to Canada from Ukraine as a small child.
“This is for a lot of friends of mine who immigrated from a lot of places trying to escape some pretty dark things and the courage it takes to do that. “
Hennessy performs “Thank You” as her encore and dedicates it to her audience.
