Love and Music
The crowd was rowdy and ready for Melissa Etheridge to hit the stage for Thursday night’s show at Maryland Live Casino. The audience at the intimate venue was small but mighty.
“That is what this is all about, spreading some love and some music.”
“I don’t know about you but I need music right now. This is a safe place. There is nothing but good and my whole hope is that you leave here feeling better than when you came.”
Etheridge introduces her cover of the Staples Singer’s “Respect Yourself” and adds “Well, the key my friends, the key is to respect yourself.“
Etheridge talked about her most recent album “Memphis Rock and Soul”: “Not only was it very political and great but it was also some of the best kick ass rock n roll r&b ever. I think all the great rock songs were inspired by these Memphis tunes” She went on to sing covers of “Born Under a Bad Sign” by Albert King, “Hold On I’m Coming” by Sam and Dave, and “Any Other Way” by William Bell.
Fan favorite hits were also performed during Etheridge’s 90 minute set. The crowd danced and had sing alongs to songs such as “Come To My Window”, “I’m The Only One“ and “I Want to Come Over”. Audience members danced by the stage dropping off bottles of water during “Bring Me Some Water”.
Be The Change
“I figured out that if you want to see change in the world you actually have to be the change. You gotta start right here. If you want more hope in the world you’ve gotta feed more hope. You gotta have more hope. If you want to see more love in the world you gotta be more love.”
Etheridge sent the audience into cheers and laughter when she shared the name of one of her guitars.
“I name my guitars. I do enjoy them. I named this one Cate Blanchett.”
“When it comes to that stuff called love it is really more about how I feel about myself. It’s really more about how you feel about yourself. It’s really more about how much you love yourself. You really can’t love another person or let that person love you until you love yourself. “
Etheridge performed “Like The Way I Do” for the encore and introduced band members David Santos, Brian Delaney, and Max Hart.
“Remember to love yourself. Remember to be kind to someone. Remember nobody and I mean nobody loves you like the way I do”
