The Wonderful Women of Radio

In the past decade or so, radio has been perceived as a dying art. Much like cable TV, no one really wants to sit through unnecessary advertisements when they have ad free music at their fingertips. Radio is left to daily commuters, who often flip through channels mindlessly. Recently though, radio has been making a comeback with mediums such as Sirius XM and iHeartRadio. It takes a captivating personality and entertaining content to make a dedicated listener out of people, and there are some awesome women in radio who do just that.

These are the women we love to listen to:

Robin Quivers— Sirius XM’s The Howard Stern Show

Robin Quivers is the long time ‘partner-in-crime’ of Howard Stern. She began working with Stern in 1981, and his been his right hand woman ever since. Her humor and chemistry with Howard Stern comes through crystal clear on the radio waves. After a longtime battle with cancer, Quivers is no longer a full time host on the show, but does appear every now and again on the Sirius XM show. She is an author, and longtime advocate for vegan lifestyles.

Ellen K— iHeart Media’s KOST 103.5

Once Ryan Seacrest’s co-host on On Air With Ryan Seacrest on 102.7 KIIS Fm, Ellen K has recently snagged her own morning show on KOST 103.5. Her unique voice, and fun and famous friends like Lisa Rinna and Kris Jenner, allow for an entertaining 5 hour morning block.

Annie Nightingale— BBC Radio 1

Annie Nightingale is a radio maverick. She’s known as Britain’s first female Disc Jockey, and was even presented with an MBE by the Queen of England herself. Annie’s current time slot on Radio 1 is kicking off the weekends every Friday morning from 3-5 am.

Annie Mac— BBC Radio 1

Annie Mac brings an impressive mix on Friday Nights, broadcasting on BBC’s Radio 1 channel. Even more impressive are the guests she brings in to debut their latest music, and share their favorite mixes.

Jane Garvey— BBC Radio 4 Woman’s Hour

Jane Garvey has been a radio veteran for nearly three decades. Her current spot is on the beloved BBC 4 program, Woman’s Hour. A self-proclaimed feminist, Garvey is an advocate for women’s health and education as well as diversity in radio.

Renae Ravey— iHeart Media’s ALT 98.7

Renae Ravey, co-host of a newly syndicated Los Angeles morning show, The Woody Show, is refreshing and hilarious. Her laugh is absolutely contagious, and she wows with an impressive array of knowledge on sports, celebrities, and nerd topics. Ravey is a long time radio host, and is taking over airwaves alongside her hilarious co-hosts.

These women are only a few of some of the amazing ladies in radio. They utilize their platforms to shut down shamers, build up women, and create fun, relatable content. They are definitely providing some serious ear candy.
