Dottie West Died 26 Years Ago at the Age of 58

On September 4, 1991, after sustaining injuries during a car accident, country singer Dottie West died. While on her way to a scheduled gig at the Grand Ole Opry, the car West was a passenger in lost control and crashed on an off ramp on. The off ramp to the Grand Ole Opry to be exact. She suffered severe internal injuries to her spleen and liver. After four days and while under for her third surgery, West succumbed to her injuries. 600 friends and family attended her funeral including Emmylou Harris, Connie Smith, Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash, and Steve Wariner.

Dottie West won the first Grammy for Best Female Country Vocal Performance in 1965, and is considered one of the most influential women in country music.
