The Swamp Boogie Queen Katie Webster Died on this Day in 1999

Katie Webster was an American boogie pianist, best known for her work as a session artist behind Louisiana’s top musicians like Lightnin’ Slim and Lonesome Sundown. She also played with Otis Redding in the ’60s. After Redding’s death, Webster went into semi-retirement.

She toured extensively through Europe in the ’80s, and released a few albums. Bonnie Riatt even appears on her record The Swamp Boogie Queen. She died from heart failure in Texas.
