Tegan and Sara announce The Con X Tracklist

Tegan and Sara Reveal the Artists on “The Con X” Covers Album

Unbelievably, it’s been ten years since Tegan and Sara released their album, “The Con”. While not their first, it was by far one of their most influential records. As you can read in their official announcement, it was with that idea in mind that this past winter, that Tegan and Sara Quin started to throw ideas back and forth about how to commemorate it. “The Con X” fall tour and upcoming covers album of the same name was born.

Produced by Chris Walla of Death Cab For Cutie, “The Con” was a brutal tale of the harshness of love and loss. “The Con” was two separate narratives on similar themes by two different artists with different lives that just happen to have been born a few minutes apart. Ten years into the future, “The Con” has only grown in its mythos. There are people that will hear those songs for the first time now and feel those same feelings I did ten years ago.

That was its magic.

Earlier this year, Tegan and Sara announced a tour of the record, with every song stripped back until they’re as they were before the recording, the producing, and the connections that followed. (For us fans, as well as for the girls themselves).

Today in a press release, they released the closely guarded secret artists that have covered songs from “The Con”. Artists such as Cyndi Lauper, Hayley Williams, Vivek Shraya and Sara Bareilles join fellow LGBTQ+ identified and allied musicians on a record I can’t wait to hear.

The proceeds of “The Con X” will all go to the incredibly important Tegan and Sara Foundation — a foundation close to my heart, that raises money for self-identified women within the LGBTQ+ community — and each of the artists featured donated their time and talent without asking for anything in return.
