Today in 1970 Janis Joplin Records ‘Me and Bobby McGee’

On September 5, 1970, Janis Joplin started a new recording session, laying down her own version of Kris Kristofferson and Fred Foster’s song “Me and Bobby McGee.” After her death in 1971, the song hit number one on the US charts. This would become the second posthumous single to hit number one in music history. Otis Redding’s “Sitting on the Dock of the Bay” was the first.
