Watch: Diana Ross Live at Caesars Palace in 1979

“Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” was originally recorded by Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell, but was later revisited by Diana Ross in 1970. The cover skyrocketed Ross’ solo career, resulting in her first number one single on both the pop and R&B singles charts & Grammy Award nomination for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance as a solo artist. Ross was originally apprehensive to re-record the song, but was later convinced by original writers Nickolas Ashford & Valerie Simpson.

Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell’s version of “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1999, and is regarded today as one of the most important records ever released by Motown.
