Watch: St. Vincent’s ‘New York’ Music Video

Annie Clark (aka St. Vincent)’s highly anticipated follow up to her eponymous 2014 album’s release date is quickly approaching.

This past week, St. Vincent fans were treated to a neon-flecked barrage of pseudo-PSA videos released via Instagram. Annie also asked for our participation in a playlist on what New York means to us and we were lucky enough to get a brand new video for the July-released track, “New York.

Directed by visual artist Alex Da Corte, the video clip mixes a lot of colors with a lot of images, managing to blur the lines between comical and dark; a style similar to the short film Annie directed last year.

In an official statement, Alex said of St. Vincent’s New York: “I think [Annie’s New York] is the New York of my dreams—one that is blurry and fractured, dreamy and flat.”

It is. Fractured like a jigsaw puzzle or math problem or the derealization of a lost soul’s broken heart.

What can we say? Bring it on.

A proudly queer, freelance music journalist, Em splits her time between Durham and London. When she’s not at a gig, mouth-agape, she’ll be camped outside of a Parisian bistro taking photographs of strangers.

The little pleasures in life are the most meaningful to her: Her dog, family-and-extended, and Milkybar buttons.

Her motto — a snippet from Alexander Pope’s Essay on Man — is, “hope springs eternal.”
