Annie Clark (aka St. Vincent)’s highly anticipated follow up to her eponymous 2014 album’s release date is quickly approaching.
This past week, St. Vincent fans were treated to a neon-flecked barrage of pseudo-PSA videos released via Instagram. Annie also asked for our participation in a playlist on what New York means to us and we were lucky enough to get a brand new video for the July-released track, “New York“.
Directed by visual artist Alex Da Corte, the video clip mixes a lot of colors with a lot of images, managing to blur the lines between comical and dark; a style similar to the short film Annie directed last year.
In an official statement, Alex said of St. Vincent’s New York: “I think [Annie’s New York] is the New York of my dreams—one that is blurry and fractured, dreamy and flat.”
It is. Fractured like a jigsaw puzzle or math problem or the derealization of a lost soul’s broken heart.
What can we say? Bring it on.
