The 1998 film, Practical Magic, fed all of our romantic and witchy needs. Adapted from a novel of the same name by Alice Hoffman, Practical Magic tells the story of the Owens women played by Sandra Bullock, Nicole Kidman, Stockard Channing, and Dianne Wiest. The women of their family are said to be cursed in love, and after watching her aunts cast a spell for a lovesick woman, a young Sally decides she never wants to fall in love. Casting an ‘Amas Veritas’ spell of her own, her perfect love would “hear her call a mile away, whistle her favorite song, and ride a pony backwards.” The list of unbelievable qualities continue on to shape a man Sally thinks could never exist.
Amas Veritas translates to “in truth there is love.”
