Watch Joni Mitchell’s 1970 Performance of ‘Both Sides Now’

Joni Mitchell wrote “Both Sides Now” in early 1967, but she wouldn’t be the first to record it commercially. In the fall of ’67, Judy Collins recorded and released the song on her landmark album, Wildflowers. It was released as a single and quickly became a top-ten hit. In 1969, the song earned Colllins a Grammy for Best Folk Performance. That same year, Mitchell included the song on her second studio album, Clouds (she later re-recorded it in 2000 for an album by the same name). The song remains one of Joni Mitchell’s best-known, and Collins’ version continues to be the best-received out of the nearly 100 covers of “Both Sides Now.”
