At the recent press conference for the launch of Tina, the bio-musical about the life and career of Tina Turner, Turner joined the actress chosen to play her in a rare short performance of “Proud Mary.” The musical will premiere at London’s Aldwych Theatre, April 17. Written by Katori Hall, Frank Ketelaar, and Kees Prins, the play will feature many of Turner’s hits as you’re taken on a journey through her life. From her days in Tennessee, through her relationship with Ike, to becoming one of the biggest female artists in music history.
Tony Award nominee, Adrienne Warren, has been chosen to star as Turner saying, “I am elated, honored and humbled. Meeting and working with Tina is and will always be one of the great moments of my life.” Turner worked closely with the writers and producers, and she knew right away Warren was the perfect person to tell her story. “From the moment I met her at our last workshop, I saw her exceptional talent. Playing this role will require immense physical and emotional commitment, and bravery, too.”
Preview shows begin March 21.
